chapter 4 Flashcards
What is the difference between x86 Architecture and RISC Architecture?
x86 Architecture typically is equated with the # of cores in the system, ex. Intel core i3, i5, i7, i9
and RISC Architecture is companies like ARM, Apple, & Motorola where the cores have more specialized functions, which means less power, however lines are blurring
Data storage
main storage-RAM works w/ CPU
storage hardware:
commonly measured by Gb
portable examples include USB drives, CD’s & DVDs
Data centers
huge, where all of our data goes, usually in recluse cities, filled with generators, and can be rented out to other companies if needed, example given was that 7 years of data on a client could be stored from Wilde’s example
Major Operating Systems
Non Mobile Operating Systems (OS): MS windows, Mac OSX, Linux/Unix, MS Windows Server; Applications: thick (aka Fat) Clients vs. Thin client
Mobile Operating Systems: iOS, Android
list the types of virtualization software and give examples
- PC virtualization: run windows and OSX on the same PC ex. VM ware
- Server virtualization: Run 2 or more server instances on the same hardware ex. VMware, Oracle, Microsoft, Open Source
- Desktop virtualization: PC can be remotely accessed from any networked PC ex. Citrix, Log Me In, Goto Meeting, Teamviewer, Google Chrome Remote Desktop, AWS
