Chapter 4 -4 Flashcards
Where are central vacuoles found?
in plants w/ many fused vesicles
What are the functions of central vacuoles?
lysosomal and storage of amino acids, sugars, wastes, and pigments
50-90% of the cell volume is made up of?
central vacuoles
What are peroxisomes?
vesicles that form on their own
What are the functions of peroxisomes?
Oxidize molecules (removal of e's) Break down fats (form hydrogen peroxide) Detox-ing the liver
What is Cholorplast?
1 type of plastid found in plants and some protists
What is the function of cholorplast?
Convert solar energy to chemical energy (photosyntesis)
Where is chloroplast located?
double outer membrane
Where are thylakoids located?
inner membrane system
What is granum?
stack of thylakoids
What do thylakoids contain?
pigments (chlorophyll) that capture light energy which make ATP, NADPH
Glucose is made from what?
CO2
What does Mitochondria do?
Carry out cellular respiration
Converts glucose into ATP
What happens in the inner membrane?
accumulate H+’s
ATP making machinery is embedded.
What is stroma?
fluid
