Failure to Thrive FFT
serious disorder that impairs growth in infancy and early childhood

Canalization
Tendency to return to one’s genetically determined pattern of growth
Non-Organic FTT
psychological roots, social roots, or both which makes the infant not have normal gains in weight
Advantages of Breast Milk
-better neural and behavioral organization
-enhances cognitive dev.
-reduces the risk of early breast cancer
-strengthens bones of mother
Disadvantages of Breastfeeding
-mother NEEDS to be nourished for it to nourish the baby
-breast soreness
-emotional and physical demands on mother
Disadvantages of Bottle-feeding
-expensive
-time-consuming preparation
-non readily available as breast milk is
Importance of malnutrition
-it impairs development
-like weight loss, compromised immune system, ADHD, learning disabilities, social skills, reduces problem-solving
the two growth spurts of the brain
1st: 4th-5th months when neurons proliferate
2nd: 25th week - 2 years old due to the proliferation of dendrites and axon terminals
What are Reflexive functions and what are they due to?
breathing, heartbeats, sleeping and arousal, they are due to myelination
