the stronger electroltye
What react with acids to form CO2(g)?
carbonates and bicarbonates
What is a oxidation-reduction reaction?
a reaction in which electrons are transferred from one reactant to another and the oxidation states of these atoms change
What are redox reactions?
a reaction in which certain atoms undergo changes in oxidation states.
Which susbtance is oxidized?
increasing oxidation state
Which substance is reduced?
decreasing oxidation state
When it is oxidation do it lose or gain electrons?
loses electrons(becomes more postiviely charged)
When it is reduced does it gain or lose electrons?
gains electrons(becomes more negatively charged
When is the oxidation number 0?
Ex:oxidation # of H2
elemental form
Ex: 0
What is the oxidation of monatomic ions?
Ex: S and K
equals the ionic charge
