Quintus’ thoughts, feelings
Quintus and comrades lying down, having hid in woods
guilt - He blamed himself and comrades vehemently for abandoning commander
relief, gratitude - At least his life had been saved - lucky
longing, sadness - Wanted nothing except to return home and see parents so he set out to Athens alone

sun rose
set out to Athens - hesitated when looked at comrades initially, but left
20 days - long and laborious journey
daytime - hid and slept in the woods
nightime - travelled on deserted roads
usually countrymen would receive him gladly - food

at last caught sight of Athens far away
knocked on Theo’s house - could scarcely recognise him
Quintus told him everything - about his sufferings
decided to first feed him and let him sleep, then decide what he must do

at midday Theo woke him
exclaimed he must leave to evade capture from armies of Antony
Quintus wanted nothing except return home
decided to set out to harbour and find seek ship about to depart to Italy
after
Quintus returned to Italy
journey winds first, mostly without misfortune
arrives - rejoicing to see beloved home
old man approaches - Ganymedes
his family had left
Antony’s armies had stripped them from their land
