Chapter 3 Terms Flashcards
Acceleration
A change in an object’s velocity either in speed or direction
Escape Velocity
The speed an object needs to move away from a gravitational pull
Intertia
The law that a body in rest stays in rest and a body in motion moves in a straight line at a constant speed
Law of Gravity
That one body exerts gravitational force on another body
Mass
Quantity measuring a body’s inertia
Newtown’s First Law of Motion
An object at rest stays at rest and a body in uniform motion stays in uniform unless a force acts on it
Newtown’s Second Law of Motion
The amount of force and mass applied to an object results in accerlaration
Newtown’s Third Law of Motion
When two bodies interact, they exert equal and opposite forces on each other
Surface Gravity
The acceleration caused by gravity at the surface of a planet or other body
