Chapter 3 Tectonic Plates Flashcards
What are Tectonic Plates?
Plates underground that move around floating on the Earths mantle
What are the 3 types of Plate Boundaries?
Divergent, Convergent, and Transform
What does Divergent, Convergent, and Transform do?
Divergent: Spread
Convergent: Subduction
Transform: Lateral Sliding
Out of the 3 Plate Boundaries, what two makes volcanos?
Divergent and Convergent
What are the two Tectonic Forces?
Volcanism and Diastrophism (Dia-Stroph-ism)
What is Volcanism?
The creation of Volcano’s through the movement of plate tectonics
What is a geyser?
Its water that has built up steam through magma that high pressurized steam flows outwards after a while.
What is Diastrophism?
Earth’s solid part(s) moving causing deformation to its Crust.
What is Diastrophism?
Earth’s solid part(s) moving causing deformation to its Crust.
What causes Earthquakes?
When the Diastrophism movement is strong, it creates a shake of the surface.
What is the Upward Force?
Widespread Rising of the crust
What is Downward Force?
Widespread Sinking of the Crust
What is Horizontal Force?
Moving in the same direction causing compression making landmasses break and slip against each other causing tension.
What is Folding in Landmasses?
Part of Crust crumples, bends upwards, and downwards.
What are two parts of the Fold?
Crest or Anticline
Trough or Syncline
