What did the Criminal Justice Act of 2003 state?
The Criminal Justice Act of 2003 stated that there were 5 purposes of sentencing:
- Punishing the offender
- Deterrence - trying to reduce crime
- Rehabilitation of the offender - trying to reform their behaviour
