Chapter 25 & 20 Flashcards
What is the function of the frontal lobe?
Directs voluntary, skeletal actions. INfluences communication, emotions, intellect, reasoning, judgment, and behavior
*Broca area with is responsible for speech
What is the function of the parietal lobe?
Interprets tactile sensations, touch, pain, temp, shapes, 2 point discrimination
What is the function of the occipital lobe?
Influences ability to read w/ understanding and primary visual receptor center
What is the function of the temporal lobe?
Receives and interprets impulses from ear.
*Wernicke area - responsible for interpreting auditory stimuli
What are the 3 parts of brainstem?
Midbrain, pons and medulla oblongata
Cranial nerve 1
Olfactory - sensory
Cranial nerve 2
Optic - sensory
Cranial nerve 3
Oculomotor - motor - eye muscles to control eye movements, constricts pupils, elevates eyelids
Cranial nerve 4 IV
Trochlear - Motor - Contracts one eye muscle to control inferomedial eye movement
Cranial nerve 5 V
Trigeminal - sensory/motor - impulses of pain, touch and temp from face to brain, clenching and lateral jaw movement (biting & chewing)
Cranial nerve 6 - VI
Abducens - motor - controls lateral eye movements
Cranial nerve 7 - VII
Facial - sensory - taste, anterior 2/3 of tounge, stimulates secretions from salivary glands, tears from lacrimal glands
Motor - facial muscles and expressions
Cranial nerve 8 - VIII
Vestibulocochlear - sensory - hearing and balance
Cranial nerve 9 - IX
Glossopharyngeal - Sensory - taste, posterios 1/3 of tounge, pharynx = gag relfex
Motor - parotid salivary glands; promotes swallowing
Cranial nerve 10 - X
Vagus - sensory/motor - sensations from throat, larynx, heart, lungs, GI, abdominal viscera - promotes swallowing, talking, digestive juices
