Chapter 21 Air Conditioning Flashcards
HEPA filters remove contaminants to what level?
0.5 microns
Bacterial and microorganism level
In relation to equipment cooling, what prevents the FWD cargo from receiving exhaust air when the exhaust valve opens?
A check valve.
What is the purpose of the recirculation system?
It reuses cabin air for ventilation purposes, reducing the use of bleed air, making it more efficient.
What is the function of the equipment overboard exhaust valve?
It is open when the aircraft is on the ground, venting the hot air overboard.
When in the air, the valve is closed the hot air is used to heat the forward cargo compartment.
How many motors are associated with the outflow valve?
There are two AUTO motors and one MANUAL
What indication would you get if equipment cooling failed on the ground?
The amber OFF light followed by the GND call alarm after 20 seconds
What does the test of the Pack Zone Temperature Controller show?
It does a self test of the box and shows faults from the previous flight
What air source passes through the recirculation system?
Passenger Cabin Air
When would you be required to pull the C/B for the overboard exhaust valve?
If you were dispatching an aircraft for unpressurised flight
Where are the recirc fan overheat switches located?
In the fan’s field coils.
For the FWD door area supplementary heating system, which duct will supply air?
Flight compartment distribution duct.
In relation to the emergency exit doors, where are the door heater blankets located?
Behind the door lining and door trim.
What logic does the door area heating work off?
Air/Ground logic
With both packs operational, which pack supplies air to the flight compartment?
The L/H Pack.
How many pack temperature control valves are there?
4.
How many equipment cooling fans are there?
4
Two supply,
Two exhaust.
How is air ventilated from the toilets and galleys?
Using cabin differential pressure.
How would you supply bleed air if the APU is INOP and engines are off?
Using the air starter/ air conditioning unit 8 inch (massive) connection.
What could cause an increased noise level in the galley air conditioning supply duct?
Contamination in the muffler could cause an increased flow speed.
What is the main function of the trim air system?
It is used to regulate air temperature in cabin zones.
What controls the quantity of air that flows into the aircraft?
The Pack Flow Control System using the Pack Flow control valve.
What is the percentage of fresh air used for ventilation?
50%
