Chapter 20 Flashcards
The study of interactions between organisms and their living and nonliving environment.
Ecology
Biotic are the living environments.
True
Abiotic are the nonliving environments.
True
The environmental conditions at any given point in time.
Weather
The weather conditions experienced over a long period of time (in a given region).
Climate
A measure of distance north to south relative to the equator.
Latitude
A measure of how much living material is in a given area (often refers to plant life).
Biomass
Areas with mild climate, usually between 30 and 60 degrees and fair amount of participation.
Temperate Regions
The side facing the wind, usually sees a good amount of rain.
Windward Side
The side facing away from the wind, usually dry conditions.
Leeward
Region with high latitude, low temp, and low precipitation.
Arctic/Polar
Region with high latitude, low temp, moderate percipitation.
Sub-Arctic
Region with moderate latitude, moderate temp, and moderate precipitation.
Temperate
Region with low latitude, high temp, and high precipitation.
Tropical
Factors that affect climate change are latitude, large landscapes, and wind patterns.
