monophthongs
A simple vowel composed of a single configuration of the vocal organs.
Bilabial

Affricate
sound produced by complete obstruction of the air flow followed by a slight release of the obstruction, allowing friction
glide
sound produced with a constriction in the vocal tract that is only slightly more constricted than that of vowels
vowel space
the range of possible vowel sounds of a language from the high front vowel to the high back vowel. Languages and dialects choose a subset of possibilities in the vowel space but do not exploit all possibilities
palatalized
a term used to describe the articulation of a sound which involves the tongue moving toward the hard pallet
intonation
commonly refers to the pattern of pitch movements across a stretch of speech such as a sentence
periodic wave
sound wave that repeats itself at regular intervals
