Management vs leadership
Managers seek and follow directions, implementing ideas. Leaders inspire achievement, initiating ideas
Internal locus of control
Belief that you are the primary cause of what happens to yourself
Authoritarian leadership
In which leader retains a great deal of authority making decisions and dictating instructions
Democratic Leadership
supervisor allows employees to participate in decision making and problem solving
Laissez-fair leadership
Manager is uninvolved and lets employees do what they want
Fielder’s contingency model
change the characteristics of the situation to fit the leadership style (leader member relations/ task structure/ position power of the leader)
Life cycle theory of leadership
Change leadership style to adapt to the situation. Leadership style should reflect the maturity of the employees
Path goal theory of leadership
Make desirable, achievable rewards for meeting organizational goals.
Directive, supportive, participative and achievement behavior
Servant leadership
Deliberately choose to serve others rather than lead
Entrepreneurial leadership
Generally best for self- employed people. Believe that they play a very strong roll in the company
Spiritual leadership
Address spiritual development of followers
Authentic leadership
stands by values, provides honest feedback
Ethical leadership
Stands behind strong ethical/ moral codes/ standards
Transformational leadership
Focus on influencing/developing their followers
