Chapter 2 : regulating internal environment Flashcards
Intracellular fluid means ?
Fluids located in the cells .
Interstitial fluid means ?
Fluids found in the space between cells .
Internal environment means ?
Conditions that exists in the body of an organism .
Functions of internal environment :
Tr___
- Transport for nutrients and wastes
cell , amino/fatty acids , cell waste products
Functions of internal environment :
Lu__
Lubricant for internal organs .
Functions of internal environment :
Os___ Pr___
Osmosis pressure maintained in the body .
Extracellular fluid means ?
Fluid surrounding the cell , includes interstitial fluid and blood plasma .
Factors affecting the internal environment (Physical Factors) :
Temperature , blood pressure
Factors affecting the internal environment (Chemical Factors) :
pH level , glucose level , osmotic pressure
Homeostasis :
balanced state , will often trigger positive / negative feedback mechanism .
Positive feedback mechanism :
A response that increases the initial change instead of going back to its original state .
A large amount of increment until something is achieved .
Example of positive feedback mechanism :
Fruit ripen , blood clotting , childbirth
Negative feedback mechanism :
Reducing the activity or output of the organ or system back to its normal range of function .
lesser end-productions . too much then need lower / too lower then need higher
Example of negative feedback mechanism :
Temperature regulation : cold /decreases - goosebumps to trap heat
hot / increases - sweat to lose heat
Summary of PN feedback mechanism :
Positive Feedback : result in more of a product : more apples, more contractions, or more clotting platelets.
Negative Feedback : result in less of a product : less heat, less pressure, or less salt.
