9.4 Assimilation Flashcards
Nutrients that are absorbed into the blood capillaries of villus includes ?
Amino acids , simple sugars , vitamin B and C , minerals
Nutrients that are absorbed into the lacteal of villus includes ?
Glycerol , fatty acids and Vitamin A,D,E and K
Pathway for water-soluble nutrient starting from ileum :
ileum —> Hepatic portal vein —> liver —> hepatic vein —> heart —> body cells and tissues
Pathway for fat-soluble nutrient starting from ileum :
ileum —> thoracic duct —> left subclavian vein —> heart —> body cells and tissue
What will happen to excess glucose in digestion ?
Converted into glycogen and stored in liver and muscle cells .
What will happen to excess amino acids in digestion ?
Cannot be stored , it is converted into urea through a process called deamination . It is then sent to the kidneys where it is then excreted in the urine .
What will happen to excess lipids in digestion ?
Stored in the adipose tissue .
Assimilation of glucose :
Glucose is used in cellular respiration to release energy .
Assimilation of amino acids :
Amino acids are used to synthesis proteins such as plasma protein and prothrombin .
Assimilation of lipids :
Lipids are used to synthesis about 80% of the body’s cholesterol .
Glucose can also be converted to what ?
Converted to fats when there is excess glycogen .
Lipids can be broken down to form what ?
Lipids can be broken down to form glucose if required .
