Chapter 2 Flashcards
Photosynthesis equation
Carbon dioxide + water = water + glucose + oxygen
Autotrophs
Can make their own food from organic material and sun.
Organic
Describes complex, carbon containing compounds.
Inorganic
Compound that is not organic. Eg carbon dioxide.
Chemosynthesis
The synthesis of organic substances using energy from chemical reactions.
Carbohydrates
Organic compound that serves as a structural component in energy sources
Heterotrophs
Can not synthesis its own food it relies on other.
Consumers
Any animal that can not manufacture its own food.
Aerobic respiration
Respiration in the presents of oxygen.
Photosynthesis
A chemical reaction using energy from the sun to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen.
Respiration equation
Glucose + oxygen = carbon dioxide + water + energy ATP
Anaerobic respiration
Respiration in the absence of oxygen
Anaerobic respiration animals
Glucose = lactic acid + energy 2ATP
Anaerobic respiration in plants
Glucose = alcohol + energy 2ATP
Where does anaerobic respiration occurs
Cytoplasm/ Cytosol
Where does aerobic respiration occur.
Cytosol then moves into the mitochondria
ATP
Only direct energy used by a cell.
ATP to ADP
ATP looses a phosphate that produces ADP. the braking of the bond creates the energy.
Number equation for photosynthesis.
6CO2 + 12H2O = C6H12O6 + 6H2O + 6O2
Pigment
Absorbs light but only certain colours.
Light dependent stage
In the thylakoid membranes
Uses water
Produces oxygen
Light independent reaction
In the stroma
Uses carbon dioxide
Makes sugars
Glycolysis
Anaerobic respiration
Three steps of aerobic respiration
Glycolysis in Cytosol makes ATP
Krebs circle in the presents of oxygen moves to mitochondria
Electron transport chain inner mitochondria enzymes are produced and with oxygen so is water.
Compensation point
When photosynthesis and aerobic respiration are equal.
Name the parts of the chloroplast
Thylakoids, Granum, stroma outer and inner membrane
