Chapter 2 Flashcards
What are our bodies made of?
It consist of mostly protoplasm
Is the cell surface membrane partially or fully permeable?
partially permeable membrane
Cell wall partial or fully permeable membrane?
fully permeable membrane
what would be the function of the nucleolus?
it plays a part in the making of proteins in the cell
what is the name of the dense material within the nucleus
It is called nucleoplasm
what is the unique traits about the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum?
It has ribosomes all over its body giving it a rough appearance
It is continuous with the nuclear envelope
How do the proteins made in the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum get out of the cell?
It is first made by the ribosomes, then a vesicle pinches off the RER and fuses with the Golgi apparatus, where the proteins are chemically modified. finally, it pinches off the Golgi apparatus and fuses with the cell surface membrane and deposits the proteins outside
why are there free floating ribosomes?
to make proteins within the cell
how does the ‘powerhouse of the cell’ accomplish its task?
By respiring, converting glucose and oxygen to carbon dioxide and water and a large amount of energy
chloroplasts, write a 30 page essay on it
Oval shaped
Contains green pigment chlorophyll, which is essential for photosynthesis
By turning light energy into chemical energy
what is the difference between complex and simple tissue?
simple tissues only have one type of cell wheres complex has >1
describe Cytoplasm
It is “part of the protoplasm between the cell surface membrane and the nucleus” where almost all chemical reaction occurs
describe vacuole
fluid filled space enclosed by a membrane, storing substances within the cell
what exactly, is turgor pressure?
it is the pressure exerted by the cell on the cell wall
