chapt 5 Flashcards
enzymes provide a alternate energy pathway, reducing activation energy
but why is this flipped upside down?
what is Denaturation….
the deformation in the shape of the protein due to excess heat or PH.
Causing it to be unable to carry out its function, which is as a catalyst
How do enzymes speed up a reacton?
It helps by providing alternate pathway, hence more substrates have the the minimum activation energy, resulting in a higher rate of effective collisions, increasing rate of reaction
Remains unchanged at the end of the reaction
enzyme
what is lock and what is key?
enzyme is lock (specific active site being the area where the key fits) and substrate being key
