Chapter 19 Blood (Steps of hematopoiesis) Flashcards
What is the first step of hematopoiesis?
Embryo blood cells appear in bloodstream during the 3rd week of development.
What is the second step of hematopoiesis?
Cells move out of blood into liver, spleen, thymus, and bone marrow.
What is the third step of hematopoiesis?
The embryonic cells become stem cells.
What is the forth step of hematopoiesis?
Stem cells produce blood cells.
What is the fifth step of hematopoiesis?
In adults “red bone marrow” is the only site of WBC/RBC formation.
What is the 6th step of hematopoiesis?
Stem cells can divide to produce myeloid stem cell and lympoid stem cells.
What is the 7th step of hematopoiesis?
Lympoid stem cells produce lympocytes; myeloid stem cells produce RBCs and WBCs (except for lympocytes)
