What is Reconstruction?
Rebuilding the former Confederate states and readmitting them to the Union
Compare Lincoln’s 10 Percent Plan with the Radical Republican plan.
Lincoln’s 10% Plan-As soon as 10% of the state voters pledged loyalty, a new state government abolished slavery, forgiving of the south
Radical Republicans-Oppressed Lincoln’s plan and wanted a harsher read mission process

Agency that helped African Americans make the transition to freedom

Northerners that moved to the South during Reconstruction to find wealth by bringing Industry to the region
What did the name scalawags mean?
Scalawags-Name used by former Confederates to describe some white southerners that were pro Union

Rutherford B. Hayes wins the election with more electoral votes, but less popular votes than Tilden

Poll taxes and literacy tests were added as requirements for voting in many southern states to keep African Americans from voting

Separation of the races
What were Jim Crow Laws?
Laws that required African Americans and whites to be separated in almost every public place

The court said segregation was legal as long as it was separate and equal

African Americans that left the South after the war
