Stridor
Upper airway obstructions (children), whistling sound when using stethoscope, neck tumor leading to obstruction.
Croup and epiglottitis.
Examine oral cavity, provide oxygen, RAPID TRANSPORT ALS.
Wheezing
Lower airway (obstruction of airways within lung), whistling sound, COPD, Asthma, Congestive Heart Failure, Pulmonary Edema, Pneumonia, Bronchitis, Anaphylaxis
Crackles (rales)
Obstruction of the alveoli via fluid (Lower Respiratory), heard all throughout lung or localized, localized = pneumonia, bilateral = pulmonary edema.
Also, congestive heart failure.
Rhonchi
COPD, Pneumonia, Bronchitis.
Rattling sounds, secretions or mucus in the larger airway, junky sounding.
Decreased or absent breath sounds
Asthma, COPD, Pneumonia, Hemothorax, Pneumothorax, Atelectasis
