Chapter 16 Flashcards
What is the Periodic Table?
A list of elements arranged in order of increasing proton (atomic) numbers.
How do metallic and non-metallic properties change from left to right across a period?
From left to right across a period, there is a decrease in metallic properties and an increase in non-metallic properties.
How do metallic and non-metallic properties change down a group?
Going down a group, there is an increase in metallic properties and a decrease in non-metallic properties.
How are number of electron shells and period number related?
The number of electron shells is equal to the period number of the element.
What is the relationship between number of valence electrons and group number?
The number of valence electrons is the same as the group number of the element.
What does an introduced more reactive halogen do to a less reactive halogen in its halide solution?
A more reactive halogen will displace a less reactive halogen from its halide solution.
