Q

Expound on water of crystallisation.

A

Many salts combine with water molecules to form crystals. These water molecules are known as water of crystallisation. The water of crystallisation can be removed by heating hydrated salts that would turn into anhydrous salts.

Q

Classify soluble and insoluble salts.

A

Soluble salts:

  • All SPA salts
  • All nitrates
  • All chlorides except silver and lead(II)
  • All sulfates except calcium (sparingly soluble), barium and lead(II)

Insoluble salts:
- All carbonates except SPA carbonates
