What is the expected utility model?
The possible costs and benefits of alternative decisions are multiplied by the likelihood they occur; the option with the ‘highest utility’ is chosen.
What is prospect theory?
Decisions deviate from expected utility if decisionmakers are afraid to experience losses and when risk is in the moderate to high range; the decision maker is then willing to take more risk in order to prevent potential losses.
What is groupthink theory?
Particular circumstances can lead small groups to make poor decisions.
What is the primary problem with voting behaviour?
People who are less well economically well tend to avoid voting and therefore their interests are not taken into account.
What is rational choice theory?
Citizens will not bother to vote because they believe that their vote doesn’t make any difference.
What is the theory of reasoned action?
The direct determination of behaviour is the intention to perform that behaviour.
What is the Michigan model?
Vote choice is determined by voter’s party identification (develops early in life), and party attitudes (e.g. whether the person has a positive attitude towards republicans or democrats).
