a unique and subjective experience that relates to a yearning for connection with others, the need for positive regard and the desire for interpersonal connection
Informational support
messages that include knowledge or facts, such as advice or feedback on actions
Buffering model of support
This model posits that social relationships are beneficial because they can decrease the negative effects of stress on both mental and physical health.
Main effects model of support
proposes social support to have a direct effect on outcomes irrespective of whether individuals are under high or low levels of stress
