Q
define:
Right Diligence
a.k.a. Right Effort

- practice should bring joy, ease, happiness otherwise it’s Wrong Diligence
2
Q
enumerate:
Fourfold Right Diligence
A
- preventing unwholesome seeds in our store consciousness that have not yet arisen from arising
- helping the unwholesome seeds that have already arisen to return to our store consciousness
- finding ways to water the wholesome seeds in our store consciousness that have not yet arisen and asking friends to do the same
- nourishing the wholesome seeds that have already arisen so that they will stay present in our mind consciousness and grow stronger
3
Q
What three things nourish our Fourfold Right Diligence?
A
- joy
- interest
- Middle Way
4
Q
If we lack Right Diligence when we practise, what does this mean?
2
A
- we have not found a way to practise that is true for us
- see what brings joy and happiness of a sustained kind
5
Q
How is it that suffering propels us to practise?
A
- embracing suffering helps us see its origins and identify a path away from it
6
Q
What is meditation if it leads us away from reality or those we love?
A
- wrong diligence
7
Q
Where does Right Diligence lie?
A
- in the Middle Way, between extremes of austerity and sensual indulgence
8
Q
Which of the Noble Eight Paths does Thay point to the most, when he says, “If your practice does not bring you joy, you are not practising correctly?”
A
- Right Diligence
9
Q
What should we do when unwholesome seeds lay dormant?
A
- Help them sleep peacefully and be “transformed at the base”
NB: sometimes unnecessary to deal directly with certain sufferings
10
Q
Why is it not always necessary to deal directly with our suffering?
A
- sometimes we can let it lay dormant in store consciousness and take the opportunity to touch the refreshing and healing elements within us and around us
