Chapter 14 Flashcards
Species
Populations whose members have the potential to interbreed and produce fertile offspring’s.
Speciation
Formation of a new species, once formed a new species they cannot go to original species I won’t have fertile offspring’s.
Prezygotic
Prevention of meeting between species due to reproductive cycles, odor, colors, different habitats, different reproductive genitalia
Postzygotic
Stops spread of genetic information if matting occurs
Hybrid zygote
Won’t grow to sexual maturity, may not produce functional gametes, may be Sterile. Like the male donkey and a female horse equals a sterile mu that’s natures way of fixing the problem
Reproductive isolation
When separated from the parent specie, the evolution of reproduction periods between the new species in its parent species equals new species
Allopathic speciation
A new species comes about because of geographic barriers that isolate like physically moving
Sympathetic speciation
This is more common in plans, new species formed due to a genetic mutation, random genetic call pop ups, spontaneous mutation
Taxonomy
Change of species
