  1. Centralization - top management and then down
    1a. decentralization- each level has their own decision making.
  2. Formalization = written rules + explicit regulations (the larger the company the more formalized it is)
  3. Span of control hierarchical levels-
    TALL- has more management and management levels (less people 4 each manager)
    Flat - less managers and more people per manager
  4. Departmentalization -
    Functional structures- marketing, management etc
    Divisional structures - by product, geographical, services

Why do organizations differ

A

Mechanistic (bureaucratic)- this means decisions is centralized and the structure formalized tall span aka extensive department

Organic (no boundaries)- this means decisions are decentralized with less formalization and flat structure. Departmentalization may not exist.
