Definition
How the work of individual and teams (look up definition)
- Centralization - top management and then down
1a. decentralization- each level has their own decision making. - Formalization = written rules + explicit regulations (the larger the company the more formalized it is)
- Span of control hierarchical levels-
TALL- has more management and management levels (less people 4 each manager)
Flat - less managers and more people per manager - Departmentalization -
Functional structures- marketing, management etc
Divisional structures - by product, geographical, services

Why do organizations differ
Mechanistic (bureaucratic)- this means decisions is centralized and the structure formalized tall span aka extensive department
Organic (no boundaries)- this means decisions are decentralized with less formalization and flat structure. Departmentalization may not exist.

4 ways to deal with change
Active resistance - you are aware of it, and they make it known
Passive resistance- hardest to deal with… you think they are going with the change, but they are not (and you dont know)
Compliance
Enthusiastic
Lewins three step model
- Unfreezing step - ensures that the employee is ready to change (prep stage)
- Change -execute the intended change
- Re freeze- ensures that the change becomes permanent
