Who was Jose de San Martin?
He was a creole who was the leader of Argentina’s revolutionary forces.
Who led the independence movement in Mexico?
Miguel Hidalgo led the independence movement in Mexico.
What is Nationalism and what impact did it have?
Nationalism is the belief that people’s loyalty should be to their nation who share a common culture and history. Nationalism united Nations together(Italy), but also destroyed many cultures when trying to unite them all(Russia).
What were the main achievements of Otto von Bismark? What were his views on government?
Otto von Bismark was the prime minister of Prussia, united all of Germany by fighting France for land, was crowned kaiser(emperor), and created Germany under Prussian dominance. He was a conservative and viewed government as realpolitik which is tough power politics with no room for idealism.
What were the main achievements of Camillo di Cavour?
He united Italy as the prime minister and drove Austria out of Northern Italy. Worked to increase the power of Sardinia with deplomacy.
What did Mary Shelley write?
She wrote the famous book Frankenstein.
Who led the revolt in present day Haiti?
Toussaint L’ouverture was a slave who led a slave rebellion against the French in 1791.
Compare and contrast the liberation of both Mexico and Brazil.
In Brazil a member of the royal family helped the revolution and there was no war, just a petition signed by Brazilian citizens. In Mexico however there was a war in which the leader of the rebellion died. However both countries gained their independence and they were both colonies being ruled from a distance.
Describe the changes in music during the Romantic period
Folk songs became popular, and songs became very expressive and emotional. A main goal was to appeal the heart and souls of the listeners.
What were impressionist artists and composers trying to glorify?
That life doesn’t need to be seen as it is but how it should be. They also glorified the middle class in this time period.
Who were the Creole’s?
Spaniards born in Latin America, did not hold high political office, but could become high ranked officers in the army.

Showing or believing in life as it is, not as it should be.
Who were radicals and what did they believe/support?
Radicals were a political party who believed in the government practicing the ideals of the French Revolution. Which are liberty, equality, and brotherhood.
Who were conservatives and what did they believe/support?
The conservatives were a political party made up of wealthy property owners and nobility who favored the traditional monarchy.
Who were liberals and what did they believe/support?
Were a political party that mostly consisted of the middle class business leaders and merchants who wanted to give more power to parliament, but only wanted the educated and landowners to vote.
