What is the Declaration of Rights of Man?
A statement of ideas for the revolution adapted from the Declaration of Independence. This statement expresses the importance of the natural rights to liberty, property, security, and resistance to oppression.
What percent of the population was the 1st Estate? 2nd Estate? 3rd Estate?
The 1st Estate was one percent of the population, the 2nd Estate was two percent of the population, and the 3rd Estate was ninety seven percent of the population.
What was Bastille Day?
The day that a French mob stormed the prison of Bastille on July 14 and took it over. It is celebrated like the Fourth of July in the United States.
What was the Reign of Terror?
A period after the French Revolution when Maximilien Robespiere ruled France for a year. He killed thousands of people under the guillotine who were suspected as non supporters of the revolution.
What are Napoleon’s peacetime accomplishments?
Made government run schools which are called lycees, signed an agreement with the Vatican to establish a relationship between the church and state called a concordat, and came up with the Napoleonic Code which was an orderly system of laws.
What three mistakes did Napoleon make? Why were they mistakes? What was their impact?
Napoleon made a blockade to prevent Britain from trading with Europe. This was a mistake because Britain still found ways to get around it and they made their own blockade. This also started the war with Russia and created alliances with other countries. Napoleon made a second mistake when he invaded Spain and over the years Spain killed 300,000 of Napoleon’s soldiers. This impacted France’s army and started more alliances with other countries that didn’t like France. The last mistake Napoleon made was when he stormed Russia out of anger. It was a mistake because he lost almost all of his soldiers and did not win the war at all. This made Russia join the alliance with the other European countries. In fact all of these things led to the European alliance against Napoleon, which stripped him from his title of “emperor”.
What was the goal of the Congress of Vienna?
The goal of the Congress of Vienna was to establish peace and stability in Europe after Napoleon’s rule and to weaken France.
What was the significance of the Battle of Trafalgar?
The battle of Trafalgar was significant because it was the first battle that Napoleon had lost since he started to attempt to make an empire. It made Napoleon give up his plan of invading Britain almost completely.
What was the Continental System?
The Continental System was the economic plan to strengthen Europe and weaken Britain.
Why did the revolution happen? What are some important moments in the revolution?
The Revolution happened because the third estate in France was being forced to pay all the taxes of the country, and they had no say in their government. Some of the important moments in the Revolution were the march of Bastille which was the first amazing victory of the French citizens, the march on Versailles, and the killing of the king. These things started and ended the revolution.
