Chapter 13B NAT HLA Flight Ops Flashcards
What must be available in the flight deck in NAT HLA airspace?
Operational flight plan and simple plotting chart
What must be done prior to departure for flight flying thru NAT airspace?
- irs accurately aligned
- satellite availability checked
What should be when receiving an ATC clearance in NAT airspace?
Record each clearance and agree that the info is correct
How long before entering the OCA must clearances be obtained?
40 mins before (20 mins for Reykjavik when entering from Scottish or stavanger)
What must be included in an oceanic entry clearance?
Max FL
What are the 3 elements to an oceanic clearance?
- route
- Mach number
- FL
When must ATC be informed about a change in ETA at the entry point?
When it changes by 3 mins or more
What are the SLOP procedures?
Random selection by crew up to 2nm RIGHT of track with 0.1nm intervals
When must altimeter checks be carried out in NAT airspace?
Not exceeding 60 mins and when passing wpts or when reaching a new cleared level
What is the altimeter accuracy required?
Two altimeters must agree (+/- 200ft)
What squawk code is required in NAT airspace?
2000
How long after entry must squawk 2000 be set?
30 mins (10 mins for T9 and T290)
What must be done if a clearance can’t be obtained?
- leave assigned track by turning 30-90 degrees right or left
- offset by 5nm
- fly at a different level (500ft below 410 etc…)
What must be done if unable to maintain assigned flight level?
- minimise ROD
- differ FL
- advise ATC ASAP
When deviating around weather without ATC clearance what level must be maintained?
- less than 5nm = assigned level
- greater than 5nm = change by 300ft (when going east and right = climb, north = descend)
