Chapter 11 ETOPS and Long Range Flights Flashcards
For normal operations for aircraft with two engines what is max allowed time from an alternate following an engine failure?
60 mins with OEI
What aircraft can use ETOPS?
Twin engined aircraft
What is the purpose of ETOPS?
Allows operations beyond the basic threshold time of 60 mins from an adequate alternate
Define an adequate alternate
An aerodrome with satisfactory performance requirements, rwys and at ETA will have TAS, emergency services and other essential facilities
Define an adequate ETOPS en route alternate
Same as before but must have one instrument approach and met conditions must be above minima at ETA +/- 1hr
What is the minima for a precision approach?
DA/H = authorised + 200ft RVR = authorised + 800m
What is the minima for a non-precision approach?
MDA/H = authorised + 400ft RVR = authorised + 1500m
For flight planning purposes where must there be an adequate ETOPS en route alternate?
The shortest of:
- within normal diversion time
- diversion time based on MEL
What is a minimum time route?
Routes giving the shortest flight time between departure and destination adhering to all ATC and airspace restrictions
