When is aviation considered to be private?
When flying for pleasure (no payment to pilot)
What are the two categories of commercial aviation?
Scheduled air transport (movement of PAX and cargo) and aerial work (everything else)
What is general aviation?
Anything other than commercial aviation (usually termed private flying)
What is ICAO?
International civil aviation organisation
What is the goal of ICAO?
Promote cooperation between member states so that air transport is safe, orderly and economical
How many ICAO annexes are there?

How many annexes do we deal with in ops and what are they?
3 annexes:
6) operation of aircraft
17) security
18) the safe transport of dangerous goods by air
What are SARPS?
Standards and recommended practices
What are the two categories of SARPS?
ICAO standards (mandatory) and ICAO recommended practices (RP are only recommended)
What can national authorities be in regards to following regulations?
Can be more stringent but NOT less
What EASA document governs commercial air transport in Europe?
EASA EU-OPS (ED 965-2012 as amended)
How many annexes does EASA EU-OPS (ED 965-2012 as amended) consist of and what are they?
1) PART-DEF = definitions
2) PART-ARO = authority requirements
3) PART-ORO = organisation requirements
4) PART-CAT = commercial air transport
5) PART-SPA = specific approvals
