social institution (found in all societies) that unite people in cooperative groups to care for one another, including any children
What is Kinship?
social bond based on common ancestry, marriage, or adoption
What is Marriage?
legal relationship; usually involving economic cooperation, sexual activity, and childbearing
What is Endogamy?
marriage between people of the same social category
What is Exogamy?
marriage between people of different social categories
What is the difference between Polygyny and Polyandry?
polygyny: one man and two or more women
polyandry: one woman and two or more men
What is Descent?
system by which members of a society trace kinship over generations
How does the Structural-Functional Theory affect the Functions of the Family (4 ways)?
