chapter 13-site assessments and audits Flashcards
4 objectives of a remedial site assessment
- determine the vertical and lateral extent of soil contamination and the degree of groundwater or other on site contamination
- evaluate remedial action alternatives to clean up the contamination
- design the selected remedial action
- construct the remediation system and operate the system until the final cleanup and site closure are achieved
what is included in an ESA (environmental site assessment)?
-past site activities involving the use, storage, treatment, or disposal of hazardous materials, as well as the current activities involving hazardous materials and environmental regulatory compliance
what are the components of a field sampling plan?
- placement of sampling points
- depth of samples
- number of samples
- respective collection and test methods
what is a remedial action plan?
plan created by building owner/manager that specifies the selected remedial actions that will protect the public from a threatened or actual release of hazardous substances and the time table for implementing those remedial actions
compare site assessment with audits
site assessment involves an investigation of past and/or current contamination, includes three phases and is part of due diligence.
an audit is a detailed evaluation of current operations and administrative procedures, is one phase with follow-up actions team by the auditee and is part of regulatory compliance
what phase 2 ESA investigations stem from phase 1 research?
phase 2 investigation is used to characterize the levels and extent of any soil or water contamination, identify the source of contamination, and provide an estimate of costs to fully investigate and remediate
