1
Q
definition of evidence-based practice
A
conscientious integration of (1) clinical expertise with (2) best research evidence and (3) patient's circumstances & values in delivery of high-quality, cost-effective health care
2
Q
goal of evidence-based practice
A
implementation of high-quality cost-effective care to promote positive outcomes
3
Q
some benefits of evidence-based nursing practice
A
4
Q
some challenges to evidence-based nursing practice
A
5
Q
What does the acronym PICOT represent?
A
P - population or participants of interest I - intervention C - comparison intervention O - outcomes T - time
6
Q
Some common sources for current research literature
A
7
Q
Systematic Review
A
- narrowly-focused synthesis of research findings from QUANTitative studies
- looks at studies of similar methodology
- same standards of rigor, etc, as primary research studies
8
Q
Meta-Analysis
A
- statistically pools results from previous studies into single QUANTitative analysis
- allows for application of scientific criteria (sample size, level of significance, variables)
9
Q
What results are reported in a meta-analysis?
A
- a large, diverse sample MORE representative of target population
- determination of overall significance of probability of pooled data
- indication of efficacy of intervention, coming from average effect size determined from several quality studies (stronger evidence)
- strength of relationship between variables (better known because coming from many studies)
