family dynamics

parenting styles
parenting behaviors and attitudes that se the emotional climate in regard to parent-child interactions, such as parental responsiveness and demandingness
authoritative parenting
high in demand and high in support. set clear standards and limits for their children and are firm about enforcing them; at the same time, they allow their children considerable autonomy within those limits, are attentive and responsive to their childrens concerns and needs, and respect and consider their childrens perspective
authoritarian parenting
high in demand and low in support. nonresponsive to their childrens needs and tend to enforce their demands through the exercise of parental power and then use of threats and punishment. oriented toward obedience and authority and expect their children to comply with their demands without question or explanation
permissive parenting
low in demand and high in support. responsive to their childrens needs and do not require theur children to regulate themselves or act in appropriate or mature ways
rejecting parenting
low is demand and low in support. do not set limits for or monitor their childrens behavior, are not supportive of them, and sometimes are rejecting and neglectful. they tend to be focused on their own needs rather than their childrens needs
bidirectionality of parent-child interactions
the idea that parents and their children are mutually affected by one anothers characteristics and behaviors
