Chapter 12 - Stoichiometry Flashcards
Stoichiometry
measures these quantitative relationships, and is used to determine the amount of products/reactants that are produced/needed in a given reaction
Mole to mole stoich
Balance the equation.
Convert units of a given substance to moles.
Using the mole ratio, calculate the moles of substance yielded by the reaction.
Convert moles of wanted substance to desired units.
Mass to mass stoich
Balance the equation.
Convert units of a given substance to moles.
Using the mole ratio, calculate the moles of substance yielded by the reaction.
Convert moles of wanted substance to desired units.

Limiting Reactions
The limiting reagent (or limiting reactant) in a chemical reaction is the substance that is totally consumed when the chemical reaction is complete
Percent Yield
Percent yield is calculated to be the experimental yield divided by theoretical yield multiplied by 100%
