Q

How do you focus on the specimen?

A

While watching from the side, and not through the eye piece, use the coarse adjustment knob to lower the objective lens towards the slide. Stop the objective lens just above, but not touching, the slide. Touching the slide with the objective lens may damage the lens, the slide or both.
8. While looking through the eyepiece lens, slowly raise the objective lens with the coarse adjustment knob. When the specimen comes nearly into view, turn the fine adjustment knob to focus exactly on the specimen. To magnify the specimen even more you can use a higher power objective lenses by following the same procedure.
If you cannot find the specimen, repeat steps 7 and 8.
