chapter 12 Flashcards
Work
W= F*d
Power
P = W/t. (the rate at which work is done).
Mechanical Advantage
a quantity that measures how much a machine multiplies force or distance: F_out/F_in = d_in/d_out.
Simple Machine
one of the six basic types of machines, which form the basis for all together forms of machines. (1) simple lever; (2) simple pulley; (3) wheel and axle; (4) simple inclined plane; (5) wedge; (6) screw.
Potential Energy
the energy an object has because of the position, shape or condition of the object. isn’t it just the potential to do work by the system? PE_gravity = gmh.
Kinetic Energy
the energy of a moving object. KE = 1/2 mv^2
Mechanical Energy
PE + KE
Efficiency
useful work output/ work input
