The spoils system is the act of replacing government employees with the winning candidate’s supporters. This opened up jobs to people from all walks of life.

Secede means to break away from the union.
What was the Nullification Crisis?
South Carolina passed the Nullification Act, declaring that it would not pay these “illegal taxes. Jackson supported a compromise that appeased the state government that would gradually lower the tariffs. South Carolina accepted.
