Chapter 11 - Client strategy - Dynamic screening and assessments Flashcards

1
Q

When are dynamic assessments done?

A

At the very beginning - with a new client. This is called the intake phase.

At re-assessments to evaluate and track client progress.

Q

How are dynamic assessments useful to the PTS?

A

1). identify you client’s fitness level for cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular resistance and flexibility
2) Determine your client’s strengths and opportunities to progress towards their goal
3). identifying significant injuries or risk factors that might affect your client’s ability to exercise
4). developing an individualized and periodized training program that considers the client’s needs
5). establishing a baseline and setting a standard for the client to measure future progress
6). motivating your client

Q

What do we mean by Active range of motion (AROM)?

A

Active range of motion refers to a range of moition a joint has without an external force moving it.

Q

If a client does a quadricep stretch and uses the assistance of a strap or his hands - is that an active range of motion?
1). Yes
2) No

A

No - because the strap or the hands are assisting the motion.

Q

what equipment is required for movement quality assesmsents?

A

1). Client should wear athletic shoes and comfortable clothes
2) flexible plastic measuring tape

Q

What are the movement assessments suggested by CanFitPro?

A

1). Squat = lower-body moiblity and stability
2)Wall slide = upper body mobility and stability
3) Front Plank with shoulder tap - torsion control = core stability
4)split squat = lower-body stability
5) Shoulder ROM = upper body mobility
6) Straight leg raise - hamstring flexibility
7) Knee to wall - ankle mobility

Q

How do we measure Heart Rate Recovery?

A

1). have the client perform a cardio exercise - eg. stair climbing, walking or running on a treadmal, cycling or rowing machine.
2)Have client continue the exercise until they describe their Rate of Perceived Exersion (RPE) btween 7 to 9 on a scale of 10
or - if there is a heart rate monitor/fitbit etc., calculate the client’s MaxHR and ensure client does not exceed 85% of MaxHR.
3) Have client stop the exercise and immediately count their pulse manually for 15 seconds. Multiply the result by 4 for a pulse rate per minute
4) Have client wait one minute then count their pulse again manually for 15 seconds. Multiply the result by 4 for a pulse rate per minute.
5) Subtract the second pulse rate from the first pulse rate
6) Result: The pulse rate should slow.
If result is:
Pulse rate difference is less than 20 Beats per minute (BPM) - low fitness level
Pulse rate difference is between 20 and 40 BPM - average fitness rate
Pulse rate difference is over 40 BPM - high fitness rate

Q

Muscular capacity

A

1). Push up assessment (measures upper body strength and endurance)
2) Wall sit assessment (measures lower body strength and endurance)

Q

Your client has a goal of achieving 10 push-ups from their toes. Which of the primary movement quality assessments would you prioritize and why?

A

1). Wall slide - pushup requires upper body mobility and stability in shoulders, back and chest

2)Front plank with shoulder tap - push up requires core stability and ability to brace while loaded.
