Leaders
Inspire, create opportunities, coach and motivate people to gain support.
Managers
Make things happen and keep work on schedule, and engage I routine interactions to fulfil planned actions.
Leadership
Special type of interpersonal influence that gets and individual or group to do what the leader wants done.
Formal - process of exercising influence from a position of formal authority.
Informal - process of exercising influence through special skills or resources that meet the needs of other people.
Trait approach
Established a precedent for research into leadership, easy to misdiagnose individual traits.
Behavioural approach
Pro: Provides a more action orienrated understanding of leadership. Can be applied with trait theory for a comprehensive view of leadership style.
Con: cultural variables can change predicted behavioural outcomes. What applies in one situation may not work in another.
Contingency approach
Lack of consistency from trait or behavioural models leads to and understanding that the leaders situation is a major contributing variable.
