Chapter 11 Flashcards
Traditional Leadership Approaches
Generally, what are the 2 leadership behavioral approaches:
Job-centered behavior: focus on tasks and performance.
Employee-centered behavior: focus on people and team building
Whats the difference between how michigan studies and ohio studies look at leader behavior?
Michigan studies believe that job centered and people centered behavior are on the same dimension, and the leader must sacrifice one for the other.
Whereas Ohio studies believe these 2 are different dimentions, and the leader can balance both dimensions at the same time.
There are 3 factors that determine proper leadership:
-Leader–member relations (high importance)
-Task structure (moderate importance)
-Leader position power (low importance)
What is the path-goal theory?

-Supportive: being friendly and empathetic.

-Directly deciding.
-Allowing members to make decision, within limit.
-Consulting each member privately, then making the decision alone.
-Consulting the team as a group, then making the decision alone.
-Discussing with the team and making the decision together.

Time-driven: focusing on making decisions quickly and efficiently.
Development-driven: involving the team to develop their skills.
