Why do you apply ice to an injury?
Ice causes vasoconstriction. decreasing the blood flow to the injured area resulting in decreased swelling.
How long should you apply ice to an injury?
Apply for 15-20 minutes at a time, every 1-2 hours during the first 48-72 hours after the injury
Why should you elevate the injured part?
Elevation of the injured part above the level of the heart uses gravity to help brain the excess fluid and decreases swelling.
What are the symptoms for heat exhaustion?
Pale, clammy skin, rapid weak pulse, weakness, headache or nausea, cramps in abdomen or limbs
What is the treatment for a contusion (bruise)?
Apply ice

Trauma to a joint capsule or ligament

R.I.C.E.
What are the symptoms of fainting?
Light-headedness, dizziness, pale, light sweat
