A
- experience themselves/gender identity as mismatched with sex
- desire to rid self of primary and secondary sex characteristics and acquire those of other gender
- onset: from childhood to young adulthood, symptoms manifest in early childhood
- diagnosis: 6/8 symptoms for 6mo, significant distress
- comorbidity: higher rates of anxiety and depression
- suicide risks in adolescents and adults high

- psychosocial treatment: support, coping based, realigning a persons psychological gender with natal sex
- medical treatment: hormone suppression theory: psychological assessment, diagnosis, staged transition and adaptation, surgical procedures and hormone therapy

paraphilic disorder
A
- unusual sexual interests, attractions, arousal
- may cause distress/impairment to the individual or has caused harm to others
- 90% males
- high comorbidity

A
- sexual arousal from: non living objects, non-gential body parts manifested by fantasies, urges, behaviours,
- onset: puberty
- to warrant a diagnosis: must cause clinically significant distress or impairment for 6mo

voyeuristic disorder
A
- recurrent, intense sexual arousal from observing an unsuspecting person naked, undressing, engaging in sexual activity manifested by fantasies, urges, behaviours
- element of risk necessary for arousal
- diagnosis: acted upon urges with a non-consenting person, expereinced distress or impairment related to urges
- must be at least 18

- sexual arousal from exposure of ones genitals to unsuspecting persons
- element of risk necessary for arousal
- diagnosis: must have acted upon urges with a non consenting person or experience distress or impairment
- must be at least 18

- must hae acted upon child focused sexual urged or must cuase clinically significant distress or impairment
- may or may not experience distress
- minimum 16y, at least 5y older than victim

- low levels of arousal to appropriate stimuli
- sexual problems
- social deficits
- early experiences: inappropriate arousal
- high sex drive
- low supression of urges
- reinforcement via orgasm

assessment and treatment
A
- assesses extent of deviant patterns of sexual arousal, sexual history, social skills, ability to form relationships
- psychosocial treatment: behavioral, family, marital and group therapy, relapse prevention
- biological treatment: chemical castration is work done by reducing testosterone levels or secretion so sexual desires are elimitated
