Describe the learning of skills in each of the levels in the football pyramid
Foundation- taken part in regardless of interest, skills interpreted through watching television
Participation- sufficiently interested to make some sort of progression in performance. Techniques are observed and practised.
Performance- very interested in developing skills. Learner gets the feel of activity (kinaesthesis), with a coach giving guidance.
Elite- interested in developing highest skill possible, movements automatic without conscious effort. Learner able to adapt by the self, without prompting.
What is the role of sport colleges?
Extra funding for facilities and staff to improve participation and develop excellence among pupils
What are school sport partnerships?
Groups of schools working together to develop PE and sport opportunities
What will a school sport partnership typically consist of?
A partnership development manager
Up to eight school sport co-ordinators
Between 30-45 primary and special school link teachers
What is the role of a PDM?
Managing ssCo’s, developing links with key partners and community, to link sport and facilities
What is the purpose of the gifted and talented strand of the PESSCL strategy?
To not only focus on high achievers, but those showing sporting potential, pupils at risk of underachieving, and from disadvantaged areas
What is the PESSCL strategy?
To improve participation of 5-16 year olds, and hence broaden participation at the foundation level of the development pyramid.
How are the government encouraging swimming?
Offering free swimming to pensioners and schoolchildren, through grant aid.
What is the purpose of the step into sport program?
To increase quality, quantity and diversity of young people involved in volunteering and leadership.
What is the aim of sports leader courses?
To encourage volunteering in community activities, to reduce youth crime by involving vulnerable people in positive activities.

What is the Active Sports programme?
Sport England initiative aimed to encourage an increase in participation through liaison between local providers eg schools and clubs, and community groups.

Active schools - looks at opportunities for children to participate at foundation level
Active communities - looks at reducing post student gap
World class programme - looks at talent ID and linking most talented potential performers with the governing bodies structure for development into national team membership
