Family Durability
A system of support for a family that includes immediate and extended family members.

A nursing outcome from the Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC) defined positive adaptation and function of the family system following significant adversity or crisis.
Family Diversity
The unique needs and characteristics of each member in a family.
Family
A group of people related by heredity, such as parents, children, and siblings. The term sometimes is broadened to include persons related by marriage or those living in the same household who are emotionally attached, interact regularly, and share concerns for the growth and development of the group and its individual members.
Family Forms
Patterns of people considered by family members to be included in the family.
Family Caregiving
Assisting the client to meet his or her basic needs and providing direct care such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and treatments.
Family Function
A nursing outcome from the Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC) defined as the capacity of the family system to meet the needs of its members through developmental transitions.
Family as Context
Nursing perspective in which the family is viewed as a unit of interacting members having attributes, functions, and goals from those of the individual family members.
Family as Patient
A nursing approach that takes into consideration of one intervention on all members of a family.
Family Hardiness
Internal strengths and durability of the family unit; characterized by a sense of control the outcome of life events and hardships, a view of change as beneficial and growth-producing, and an active rather than passive orientation in responding to stressful life events.
