Explain the Monarch’s powers

A

Prerogative income- land, customs duties, feudal dues, could become absolute, freedom to take money

Unwritten constitution- open to interpretation, freedom and power in law

Divine right- population was loyal and support

Prerogative powers- foreign diplomacy, declarations of war, legislation (dissolve parliament), religion (head of CofE), almost absolutist

A

Substantial income could only be raised through parliamentary subsidies- taxing political nation

Unwritten constitution- open to interpretation on both sides

Needed parliament to control general population- king didn’t have enough force or civil service, political nation= taxes, militia, law, trials
