pluralistic society
A Society that has a diversity of languages, beliefs, traditions, values, religions and other aspects of culture. A society that respects and values the individual and collective opinions and identities of all people
What’s and advantage to pluralism in Canada?
- Canada’s commitment to pluralism and it’s diverse society encourages diplomatic relationships
-because of pluralism it has practiced respecting others differences and trying to come to an agreement to form common goals - better skills at mediation, building peace, resolving conflict
Globalization
The idea that countries are no longer independent of each other and that issues facing one nation are likely to have an impact on the world
What does interconnected mean?
the building of ties within and among the peoples of the world
What does interdependent mean?
The growing of mutual dependence among peoples, social, economically and politically.
Example of economic globalization
multinational/transnational companies like General Motors, IBM and Nike.
With the war in Ukraine, many transnational countries pulled out of Russia like McDonalds, Coca-Cola and IBM.
- trans/multinaional companies result in countries becoming more interdependent.
- it can also mean a loss of employment in developed nations that are no longer competitive.
What is the Group of Seven or Group of Eight (G7/G8)
It is 7/8 of the world’s wealthiest democratic industrialized nation who come tougher to analyze technological development and international disbursement and promote industrial growth.
- they actively work to promote globalization of both resources and trade
- may have concerns this wealthy group sticks together to ensure what is best for themselves ignoring issues of human rights abuses or dictatorial policy in nations like China for fear of economic consequence.
political Globalization
Deals with the governments of countries interacting with each other.
Economic Globalization
Deals with all aspects of money and trade between people around the world.
Social Globalization
Deals with individual people, or groups of people from around the world interacting with each other.
What do the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF)
They work to increase global trade and improve the economies of the world that are struggling to compete.
What is a non-government organization (NGO)?
It’s an organization that works to expose human rights abouses around the world and puts public pressure on the government responsible for the abuse to make changes to its policies. An example is amnesty international.
What does the United Nations do?
Its an organization with goals to improve the global social situation through programs to reduce poverty or disease and promote human rights.
An example of social globalization
contemporary example is the efforts being made by some people in developed countries to demand that their governments take action to stop the violence currently occurring in parts of the world through protests and petitions
An example is protests occurring in Iran and around the world about the death of 22 year old Mahsa AMini who was arrested by the guidance patrol for wearing an improper hijab.
Give an example of celebrities affecting social globalization.
Mark Ruffalo, the avenger actor founded the Water Defense organization to ban hydraulic racing in New York.
An example of political globalizaiton
can be seen in organizations such as the United Nations, where many countries come together to discuss and find solutions to issues facing the world.

What does the organization, the European Union (EU) do?
It has mandates that require member governments to be democracies. follow certain political dogma, and maintain an adherence to human rights.
What benefits are there to be a member of organizations like the United Nations, G8, La Francophonie an NATO (all ones that canada belongs to)?
There are economic benefits to the countries that join. It has has pushed countries that, in the past, have not met these criteria to change their political policies in an effort to be granted membership.
